Dieting vs Lifestyle Changes Do They Work?

Dieting vs Lifestyle Changes- What a topic! No, wonder people feel so overwhelmed when it comes to these topics. Everywhere you go there is someone else, claiming to be the master or expert. So, who do you believe? Who is the one that is going to actually help you with your specific needs?

” I have tried it all…” – I believe you.

Whether or not it is your goal to lose weight or you just want to feel better mentally, physically, and emotionally, it’s not a one size fits all situation. I know firsthand how you may be struggling with many different medical issues. You finally build up the courage to get into the Dr. office, and they say, Just lose weight, watch what you are eating or eat less food.

It leads to this crazy circle of yo-yo dieting in hopes that you will then feel better. A few things can happen

  1. Won’t lose the weight and your self-esteem goes way down.
  2. You lose the weight, and the medical issues are still not resolved.
  3. Lose the weight but quickly gain it back, back to square 1.

How Frustrating is That? Most of us have been at one or all of those stages at some point in our lives.

“I’m Not on a Diet. I’m making Lifestyle Changes”

This is fantastic. However, the problem with that phrase, is that it has fallen into the diet world. To some people, a Lifestyle change is to watch their calorie intake or be on a strict schedule around food and exercise. The oh, well I ate this donut, I must work out for 1 hour and 25 minutes now.

Unfortunately, that isn’t lifestyle changes, that is dieting.

Well, What is a Lifestyle Change.

First, everyone is completely different. What works for my body and my life, surely isn’t going to work for you and your life. I can give you all the things that I do, and you still might not feel better. Why though?

We are all biochemically unique. I have allergies/ sensitivities that you might not have. Maybe I am able to digest certain foods well or I might need help. I may have a gallbladder, you may not. The list can go on and on. Here are some things you can do.

  1. Learn what works for your body
  2. Do what works for your life/ schedule
  3. Nourish your body with the nutrients it needs
  4. Find the imbalances
  5. Mindful Eating/ No Dieting

My first recommendation is to work with someone you trust. Don’t go googling diets, trends, quick fixes. Guess, what! This is what I love to work with people on. Throw out the diets, and work on you. I’m not going to sit here and give you the speech that everyone does, on how they are an expert!

I only really can speak from experience.

  • I struggled with disordered eating my entire life.
  • Tried all the diets
  • Had the Dr. tell me to do weight loss surgery
  • Been pushed to the side like nothing was wrong
  • Struggled with my mental health my entire life

This is why I do what I do.
